Pretty Little Liars: A Hot Piece of A; Or: The One Where My Mom Is Back As PLL’S Official Recapper

My mom is back. She’s a big fan of Caleb. Here you go…

Apparently I have the attention span of a gnat. Last season my life revolved around what the little pretties were up to. The show had to be watched the moment the DVR stopped recording. I may even have been guilty of hitting the start button a few times before the recording even ended, knowing I could catch up and end up watching part of the show like animals.  That being said, I still have not watched the first episode of the winter season. I can’t seem to find that lovin’ feeling.

So— here goes. I’m going to watch both episodes but only recap the latest one. Here’s hoping for the old obsession to come rushing back. For the record, I just finished watching episode one—not feeling the love. I’m thinking about running to the Army/ Navy store to purchase a pair of night vision goggles before trying to watch the next episode. MUST they do everything in the dead of night? Do the stars and the moon boycott Rosewood? For the love of God please use some lighting— my eyes are on fire.

Episode two begins where one left off with the girls still in the dark creepy greenhouse. They are debating what to do with the locked phone “A” dropped. Everyone except Hannah wants to have extremely hot phone hacker Caleb have a look at it.  My vote goes with Spencer, Emily and Aria because I want a look at extremely hot Caleb. Hannah thinks they should just wait until tomorrow and take it to the phone store. Unless it’s an iPhone and they can take it to the apple store, they are S.O.L. trying to get help from the mental midgets at the local phone stores. After much debate, they decide Caleb is their man. DUH! Caleb says the phone has lots of data—more than just angry birds. That’s makes me wonder if “A” uses Photo Booth Classic Plus for his/her photos. It would be a great app to capture all four of them. As Caleb is downloading the contents of the phone “A” blocks it. Caleb will work with what he has but thinks it’s probably a lost cause.

After finding out about Aria and Ezra, Byron and Ella decide to finally start acting like Aria’s parents.  Those late teenage years are always a good time to start. Byron has become a clothes Nazi. Aria can no longer wear her whore-clothing to school. I guess in his crazy rage over a teacher dating his daughter, he forgot that Ezra no longer teaches at Aria’s school and as such, he wouldn’t be seeing her in the whore outfit. I think he also forgot he (as a teacher) dated one of his students. What a self righteous pompous ass and don’t get me started on that mealy-mouthed wife of his. Long story short Aria is never to see or talk to Ezra again. The pompous ass paid Ezra a visit telling him he also had made a mistake but his was OK because she was not a minor. I hate him even more now and yes I do know I am probably on the wrong side of this but Ezra is cute and lets not forget, this isn’t Penn State.

Spencer goes to see Toby to tell him they still can’t see each other, and they call her the smart one. While not seeing each other they get in a little sucky face—as always in the nice romantic truck. It’s a dream come true, if you dream of being dead inside. Anyway, some good came of the outing.  They overheard Garrett fighting with Jenna saying “it was a mistake pulling in someone else and having him help us”.  Spencer thinks they are talking about Jason who has not been seen in a while.

Thanks to the community service Emily has to do at the crisis hotline, she believes Lucas is the one helping Garrett and Jenna.  She read the transcript from the night before and realizes it sounds like what happened to them. The next day the caller calls in again and Emily and Spencer listen in and both believe the caller is Lucus. They tell Hanna but of course she does not believe Lucus would ever turn on her. They believe Lucas is setting Hanna up but Hanna believes he is her friend. So much so, that he’s going to help her with the surprise birthday party she is having for Caleb at Spencer’s family lake house. I think we all know the lake party is not going to go well and it goes without saying there will be no lights and the moon and stars will not be out.

Spencer is in the attic at the lake house looking for… Frankly, I have forgotten why she is up there but while she is, she realizes that the picture Caleb retrieved from the phone was taken up there.  As she is screaming for Hannah Lucas appears.  He says he is looking for tools. When I’m at someone’s house for a party I always make my way to their attic to look around so it seems just find to me, but Spencer is freaking out. She gets out as fast as she can. Before going to the lake house, Emily stopped by the crisis center and took a call that just happened to be from Lucas. We see him (kind of see him in the dark attic) talking on his phone saying he “has to take care of this tonight” and also says “how hard it is going to be to lose her…forever.” Emily apparently took a helicopter from the crisis center to the lake house because she got there in about the same amount of time it took Lucas to get out of the attic. Theses things happen. I watched LOST. She and Lucas have a very critic conversation both realizing they know something but not sure what. Emily tells Spencer that Lucas knows she knows.  Oh, holy crap where is Hannah, we must tell her. Too late she and Lucas are in a row boat crossing the lake to set up the fireworks for Caleb’s birthday. Lucas is acting weird even for Lucas and Hannah is getting a bit scared of him. Her friends are calling her name from the shore he tells her not to answer. She wants to go back and he tells her they are not going anywhere. It’s very dark but from what I could see (I never made it to the Army/Navy store) they both are moving around in the boat somehow maybe on purpose? Who knows. Hannah hits him with the paddle and he falls over board. The rowboat capsizes and Hannah is now in the water. Everyone on shore is screaming for Hannah. After what seems like forever, Hannah swims to land. Lucus is no where to be seen but a shoe that appears to be his floats up. Also on an odd note, Mona and Noel show up wet? What is that about? They say they took a dip because it was a nice night for it. It is not a nice night. It is a very yucky night. I don’t trust those two, but maybe they were just having a roll in the hay? Again, who knows?

Caleb arrives for his birthday party just as the overturned boat floats by. The credits roll as a black-gloved-hand uses the oar to push the tennis shoe to land. I think I might be sucked in again—much better episode than the first one. Until next week—got a secret can you keep it?
